Marathon updates

So I have done a couple races since last time I wrote.  I ran back to back half marathons called Seabrook Lucky Trails.  I have done this race the past 3 years and it is normally really warm.  Saturday was pretty warm when running but comfortable afterwards.  I pushed myself a little too hard that day. This year we had a rainstorm that kept the temperature down on Sunday.  However, it also brought mud.  I don't mind running in water and mud (I run trails) but I cannot stand people who sidestep puddles.  It was raining, your shoes are going to get wet no matter what.  I was pretty cranky after the race so I went straight home.

Then I also had another weekend long race called Texas Independence Relay.  This was my 3rd year in this race too.  This one is super fun because you are with your friends in vans for 200 miles.  My team had 10 members and 2 vans.  It is just a time to be a kid again.  Each person runs about 20 miles, and they run 4 different times.  My favorite legs are the night legs.  I only got one night leg this year and it was at about midnight which does mess up your sleep schedule.  However, you are running on a deserted highway in the middle of nowhere so you see every star and hear all sorts of animals.  It is pretty cool.

Last weekend I flew to my hometown to run the Go! St. Louis Marathon.  My mom won me an entry for this race.  I was pretty nervous because my training was nonexistent and I was injured.  So the day before TIR (Relay race), I was walking into a restaurant and my leg felt super weird.  The four times I ran that weekend, my legs were in so much pain.  I did not run the rest of the week and I was all bandaged up.  I was going to run the marathon no matter what!  I did, and I got my best time by 10 minutes.  Go! St. Louis was hands-down the hardest race I have ever run.  It is 26.2 miles of hills.  I am shocked I did so well.  However, I have no been able to run since then because of my injury.  It makes me very sad that I want to run so bad yet I can't.

So I am not a music festival person.  Yes, I volunteered at one last year but that was to raise money for a park. That being said, I really want to go to Coachella.  I think it is looking at all the pictures online.  I know it is hot and crowded and stinky people but I really like a lot of the musical acts they have.  Also, it would be great people watching.  I am most likely to old to get these ideas in my head.

Book Reviews
The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom- Really good book.  It is about a girl from Ireland who is raised with slaves on a plantation in the late 1700s/early 1800s.  I read it so fast.  I could not put it down.  I give it a 5/5.

Movie Reviews
Divergent- I have read the book (I teach) but only the first in the series.  I read it awhile ago so I forgot some of the stuff.  I completely forgot one of the main characters in the book.  Anyway, it is about a future world where war broke havoc and people are broken up in groups so that there will be no more war.  Like one group grows the food, one group keeps justice and so on.  I really liked the book and was really excited to see the film.  I really enjoyed the film too.  I also hang out with 13 year olds all day so my taste is always questionable.  My husband saw it with me and while he didn't always know why things were happening, he said he enjoyed himself.  I give it a 3.75/5.

My next post I will share my latest StitchFix because I love it.

I'm back!

Lets see how this goes this time!

Here is a little introduction about me:  I teach middle school social studies, I have been married for over 5 years, I have two beautiful dog children, and I work out...a lot.  I also like to have fun!

I am a marathon runner with a race in about 3 weeks (which I have not been training hard for).  I have completed 7 marathons now, 3 ultra-marathons and many other races.  In fact this weekend I will be running two half marathons.

I am involved in my sorority and glad I am.

I love teaching.  I do get frustrated sometimes but it is a rewarding job.

I might be addicted to subscription boxes which I will review here.

I read a lot and watch a lot of movies.

I like to find the good in things even when it is hard.

I love to travel!!  Last summer I traveled to Nicaragua to learn how to surf.  I fell in love!  I keep meaning to buy a surfboard but haven't yet.

I hate to clean but need to.  I also really need to fold laundry.  I found another blog with home organizing tips which I am trying to do but I feel like I am never home.

My family and friends mean to world to me.  I try to see friends st least once a week.  Family is harder because I am in Texas and they are not.  My parents and one sister did come visit me this past week and we had a blast.

So we will see if I can keep this up with hopefully more riveting information.

Movie Review:
The Monuments Men- Loved it!  First of all, I love history, hence my job.  Second, I love John Goodman.  So I knew I needed to see this movie.  Saw it with my parents, one sister and my husband and everyone liked it.  Even my mom who does not like movies.  Story captivated me and led to some good conversations if saving art was worth the lives that were lost and risked.  Highly recommend this movie!
